What do you get when you combine local businesses, a little adventure, some good old-fashioned exploring with Mountaineer Popcorn?
The Jefferson County Popcorn Trail!
That’s right. You now have an official excuse to grab your friends, hop in the car, and explore some of the best spots around Jefferson County. And yes, there’s great popcorn involved.
We wouldn’t expect you to go on an adventure without snacks, ever.
The Jefferson County Popcorn Trail is a new collaboration featuring local businesses throughout the area. The idea is simple: pick up your Popcorn Trail passport, visit participating stops, collect stickers along the way, and discover some local places you may not have visited before. Complete the trail, and there’s even a delicious reward waiting for you.
So grab your passport. It’s time to pop on the trail!
What Exactly Is the Popcorn Trail?
Think of it as a scavenger hunt, road trip and snack adventure all rolled into one.
The Popcorn Trail features nine participating stops throughout Jefferson County, including locations in Shepherdstown, Charles Town, Martinsburg, Harpers Ferry and Kearneysville.
At each stop, you’ll have the opportunity to check in, collect a sticker and mark another destination off your passport.
And here’s the important part:
You don’t even have to visit all nine.
Visit at least seven participating stops, complete your passport, and bring it to Mountaineer Popcorn to receive a FREE small traditional bag of popcorn.
Because apparently, the reward for going on a popcorn adventure is…
More popcorn.
Honestly, we couldn’t have planned it better.
Where Will the Popcorn Trail Take You?
One of the best parts of the trail is that there’s no single way to do it. You can make a day of it, spread your stops out over multiple adventures, or build your own route based on the places you’ve been meaning to visit.
The current trail stops include:
The Mecklenburg Inn – Shepherdstown
Start your adventure in Shepherdstown at The Mecklenburg Inn on East German Street.
Bushel & Peck – Charles Town
Head over to downtown Charles Town and make a stop at Bushel & Peck.
Orr’s Farm Market at the Junction
Orr’s Farm Market, where happiness grows, is always a good stop.
Bolivar Bread – Harpers Ferry
Take the adventure toward Harpers Ferry and stop by Bolivar Bread.
KOA Harpers Ferry / Civil War Battlefields – Harpers Ferry
Another Harpers Ferry-area stop gives you an opportunity to add another sticker to your passport.
Devil’s Due Distillery – Kearneysville
Make your way through Kearneysville for another trail stop.
Bavarian Inn – Shepherdstown
You’ll find another stop near Shepherdstown at the Bavarian Inn.
Community Garden Market – Shepherdstown
Add another sticker to your passport while exploring Shepherdstown.
Hillbrook Inn & Spa – Charles Town
Round out your adventure with a stop at Hillbrook Inn & Spa in the Charles Town area.
And there’s one more spot we haven’t mentioned…
Don’t Forget the Free Space!
Every good trail needs a free space.
The Popcorn Trail has one, too.
The passport includes a free space, so you can give yourself a sticker for that one. That’s one less stop standing between you and your free popcorn!
We love a shortcut, don’t you?
How to Complete Your Popcorn Passport
Ready to get started? Here’s how it works:
1. Pick up a passport.
Passports are available at participating Popcorn Trail locations.
2. Start exploring.
Visit the participating businesses on the trail and check in at each one.
3. Collect your stickers.
Each stop gets you one step closer to completing your passport.
4. Visit at least seven stops.
Once you’ve collected seven stickers, you’re ready to cash in your adventure.
5. Bring your passport to Mountaineer Popcorn.
Turn in your completed passport and receive a FREE small traditional bag of popcorn!
That’s it!
Well… except for the part where you have to decide which popcorn flavor you’re going to get.
That could take a while.
Make It a Group Adventure
You could absolutely complete the Popcorn Trail on your own.
But where’s the fun in that?
Grab your best friend. Bring the family. Plan a weekend adventure with your significant other. Make it a girls’ day. Make it a guys’ day. Make it a “we haven’t left the house in three days and need to remember that the outside world exists” day.
There are plenty of ways to make the trail your own.
And don’t forget to take pictures along the way!
The Popcorn Trail encourages participants to share their adventures on Instagram for a chance to win additional prizes.
So take the picture.
Get the group selfie.
Photograph the passport.
Take a picture of you eating delicious popcorn.
Basically, document your snack-related travels like you’re on a very important expedition.
Because you are.
You Might Discover Somewhere New
One of the best things about living in a place like Jefferson County is that there are always local businesses, shops, restaurants, attractions and hidden gems worth exploring.
Sometimes you just need a reason to visit them.
The Popcorn Trail gives you one.
Maybe you’ll discover a new favorite place in Shepherdstown. Maybe you’ll find yourself wandering around Charles Town. Maybe you’ll take the scenic route through Harpers Ferry. Or maybe you’ll end up somewhere you’ve driven past a hundred times without ever stopping.
That’s the whole point.
Go somewhere new. Try something different. Support local businesses. Collect some stickers. And eat some popcorn.
Seems like a pretty good way to spend the day to us.
