About
The ‘Corn
What is the shelf life of your popcorn?
Our sealed bags have an 8 week shelf life. All popcorn is sealed and shipped, so it makes the perfect gift!
Do you use peanut oil?
No, all of our popcorn is popped in 100% coconut oil! However, we do handle and process peanuts and tree nuts in our shop. Although we take every measure to ensure that our equipment is clean, we cannot guarantee that no cross-contamination has occurred. Please use your own discretion when consuming our delicious product.
Where are your popcorn kernels grown? Are they genetically-modified (GMO)?
Our non-GMO kernels are grown on our farm in Shepherdstown, WV. However, as every farmer knows, sometimes crop yields vary. Occasionally we supplement with other local non-GMO kernels.
What kind of popcorn kernels do you use?
We use two different types of kernels: yellow and mushroom kernels. Each kernel type is uniquely suited for specific popcorn flavors. For example, yellow kernels are perfect for savory flavors because the nooks and crannies allow the seasonings we add to grab on to each individual kernel. Mushroom kernels are perfect for caramel corn and other crisp shell flavors, because the round shape of mushroom kernels hold up well to the weight of our decadent caramel coating.
Where is your popcorn made?
Every single bag of Mountaineer Popcorn is popped, flavored, and packaged at our shops in historic downtown Shepherdstown, WV and Martinsburg, WV.
So many flavors! Which do I choose?
Some favorites include Buffalo Cheddar, Caramel, Fire Roasted Sweet Corn and Movie Night…..Still undecided? Try a variety!
Are all of your popcorn flavors available throughout the year?
Some of our flavors do rotate, please follow us on social media for updates. If you are looking for something particular, please see the Custom orders section above

We love Mountaineer Popcorn and are so excited that they've opened a second location in Martinsburg. My personal favorite is Reindeer Munch at the holidays but all of their popcorn is delicious. The service is always top notch at both locations and they are always very supportive of community events! Highly recommend stopping by and grabbing a bag or 3!Posted on Google Eddie Welker (edwelker)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Love this place, the buffalo cheddar is one of the most amazing popcorn flavors that I've ever had... it's perfect! And the staff are all lovely as well!Posted on Google Ellen KinzerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mountaineer Popcorn Company is such a fantastic supporter of local organizations, like the Potomac Valley Audubon Society. We host a 5K/10K race each year, and they have been a great partner! The runners look forward to getting their bags of popcorn at the end of the race and come back hoping for more!Posted on Google Libby ClarkTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I am a huge fan of Mountaineer Popcorn. I first fell in love with them when I lived in the area, but then moved to northern Virginia and still made stops back home to stock up. Now I live in Texas and I’m so happy to be able to have the popcorn delivered to me! It’s like I always have a little bit of home with me. Literally best kettle and caramel corn I’ve ever had!Posted on Google Sandy HardyTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Great, successful fundraiser! Rachel and Erin were so helpful and kind during the process! The popcorn sells itself! It is so good! Definitely recommend the garlic Parmesan, caramel, and the jalapeño white cheddar!Posted on Google Ben HuffTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. They are so supportive to the community. Always willing to help out on Fundraisers. Thank you Mountaineer Popcorn for supporting your community.Posted on Google Mike SagerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I have both the Kettle corn and the Fire Roasted. The flavor and crispyness of the corn is great, but after two hours I'm still spitting out hulls. Seems to me there is a packaging step being missed. Shouldn't the popped kernels be shaken to remove a good portion of the kernel hulls prior to packaging. I have purchased other locally popped corn in the past from Hagerstown and it has hulls(as does all fresh popped corn) but not nearly this much. I've never seen so many pieces of hulls in with the corn.
