The Best Locations to Hide Your Popcorn From Household Thieves

written by Mountaineer Popcorn

Everyone knows the struggle: you buy a few bags of your favorite Mountaineer Brand popcorn, blink twice, and suddenly your cupboard has been cleaned out. Now there’s NOTHING left for you to snack on!

Let’s be honest. Who hasn’t opened a regular size bag and eaten the whole thing solo in one sitting? There’s nothing wrong with that, of course– it’s your right! And you don’t need household thieves denying you that right!

If you’re tired of your popcorn disappearing into the void, it’s time to take action. Before you consider renting out a safety deposit box at your local bank – there’s plenty of great hiding places right inside your house. Here are six of the best crafty places at home to stash Mountaineer popcorn!

Where to Hide Your Popcorn

Inside an Empty Cereal Box

Do you have that one box of plain bran flakes or shredded wheat that others avoid like the plague? They just don’t have the refined taste in cereal that you do… So, the next time you finish a box, save it, and hide your popcorn inside. It’ll basically be hiding in plain sight!

In a Box Labeled “Tax Documents”

No one is willingly thinking about, much less touching anything labeled “tax documents.” Hide a bag of popcorn between last year’s W-2s and watch your stash stay safe forever. This is especially good if you handle the household finances!

Inside an Old Shoe Box

Remember those worn-out sneakers you’ve been meaning to donate for three years? Put the box to good use as a popcorn vault. Just make sure the box doesn’t smell like feet, or your Theater Style Butter might end up tasting a little earthy.

Under Your Bed

The classic teenage move that is so overused, nobody will expect it! Slide a storage box under your bed filled with all your favorite flavors. Label it something uninteresting like “Winter Sweaters” so no one dares disturb it.

Inside a Fake Book

If you’re feeling fancy, invest in one of those hollowed-out books like you see in the movies. Stuff it with snacks and slide it on the bookshelf. If you typically buy the larger bags of popcorn, you’ll have to buy a thicker fake book to accommodate. Bonus points if you choose a really boring title like “The History of Concrete.”

In a Suitcase

Nobody thinks to check a suitcase that hasn’t moved since your last vacation in 2018. Fill it with your favorite sealed popcorn flavors and let it collect dust in peace. Just make sure you have an excuse ready if someone catches you digging through luggage, like “that extra phone charger has got to be in here somewhere.”

Additional Tips

What to do if your hiding spot is discovered

If your popcorn does get found, you’ll have to get craftier about where you keep it the next time. The key to popcorn security is creativity—and just a pinch of paranoia. Think about where members of your household never, or almost never go. Use these hiding spots to outwit the snack thieves, and finally, enjoy your snack without fear.

Be careful getting too crafty!

It might be tempting to break out the screwdriver and stash some popcorn behind your vent covers, but that would be a pain to get every time you want a snack, and could even obstruct air flow or be a fire hazard. It would also be embarrassing to have to explain to the HVAC guy why there’s popcorn in your vents, wouldn’t it?

Don’t forget your hiding spot!

One more tip – set a nondescript reminder in your phone or on your calendar so you don’t forget about your stash. Many of our flavors are best enjoyed sooner than later – you wouldn’t want to come up with the perfect hiding place only to forget to eat it!

It probably goes without saying, but – make sure the thieves don’t read this, or they’ll be hunting for your stash.

If it’s too late, and someone already found your popcorn, visit one of our West Virginia popcorn shops or order online to stock back up!

Good luck!
